DureTek tried to develop and improve performance of the bullet. The 1st answer of improvement is Flight Stability in External Ballistics. And here is No. 2 Technology of High Performance Projectile. Destructive Power Improvement Technology in terminal ballistics is one of the most important part in order to hit a target and destroy enemies.
- Destructive Power Improvement is chained with Flight Stability Technology.
- Maximum effect(impact) can occur when a projectile flies straight and stable.
- In addition, stable flight is applied to perform maximum destructive power.
- We developed adjustment of warhead performance by changing HPP’s internal core.
- Rotating inertia moment is completely combined each components of HPP.
Experiment Results
1. Penetrating Test
- For the penetration test, the bulletproof steel plate of MARS500/SSAB500 (Armor500) with a thickness of 6.5mm used for protection of armored vehicles was shot at 100m to confirm the penetration.
- 5.56mm was fired by small arms with 16″, 18″ barrel.
- 7.62mm was fired by rifle with 21″ barrel.
Destructive Power Improvement Technology combined with Flight Stability has amazing results in several tests. Comparing with existing bullets[M855(5.56mm) / M80(7.62mm) / KA37(7.62mm)] isn’t meaningful. HPP penetrated Armor500 plate 6.5mm thickness at 100m. Existing bullets were bounced at plate, just scratch surface. However, Dr16A1(HPP) completely and clearly penetrated Armor500 plate.

2. Stopping Power Test(with Gelatin)
The Man Stopping Power of the M855A1 ammunition and Dr16A1(HPP) ammunition was confirmed by applying the international standard for 10% gelatin.
We can confirm this results above a figure which comparison of man-stopping power. Here is big different. M855A1 was fired at just 3m in front of gelatin. However, Dr16A1(HPP) was fired at 50 m for setting the same muzzle velocity with M855A1 test environment(3m in front of gelatin). As a result, it was possible to significantly increase man-stopping power like the hollow-pointer bullet.
